Agile Manufacturing of PEEMS Technologies to Modernize and Transform Armaments and Weapon Systems

Conference Abstract: The US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command continues to invest in and advance state-of-the-art PEEMS technologies (Printed Electronics, Energetics, Materials, and Sensors). Utilizing advanced hybrid technologies, the US Army and strategic partners are providing lethality overmatch. Maintaining and enhancing our Armaments’ technology base through design, development, manufacturing, and integration is allowing new processes and applications to address Army Modernization and Readiness objectives. DEVCOM is developing manufacturing technologies for weapon components utilizing Advanced Manufacturing (AdvM) capabilities, to include: Additive Manufacturing (AM), Flex Hybrid Electronics, AI, Automation, AR/VR, etc. The Printed Electronics, Energetics, Materials, & Sensors (PEEMS) Center is integrating these technologies to support remote design of advanced manufactured components at Army installations and forward deployed units. This involves integrated Virtual Reality (VR) / Augmented Reality (AR) technologies to enhance hybrid, agile manufacturing and integration cells for Armaments. Highlighted transitions, applications, and Warfighter solutions will be discussed as well as results from integrated manufacturing demonstrations and testing with stakeholders. Identifying, analyzing, and assessing new technologies and tools is advancing the Army capabilities. These advanced capabilities enable Integrated Manufacturing Environments for the Army’s Advanced Manufacturing capability.
